- See your convenience
- Adjust the Slow Cooker to your schedule. Prepare the recipe in the morning and let the Slow Cooker to work alone all day. You can prepare everything the night before, put them in the fridge and start it in the morning. In this case be sure to include the time required to heat the food from the refrigerator.
- Fresh ingredients
- Avoid frozen materials, especially meat and chicken, which take longer to cook and can make a mess of cooking times.
- Fill it right
- The slow cooker should be ½ to ⅔ full. When making soups or other dishes that need simmering, leave 5cm (2 in) to the brim. Put ingredients which need a lot of time to cook, - root vegetables, meat chunks- in bottom of slow cooker. Most sensitive ingredients, such as rice, pasta, dairy and some vegetables added the last hour of cooking.
- Keep it covered, stirring rarely
- Hold the lid in place to avoid heat loss, which slows cooking. You can pick it up to stir. If your Slow Cooker has hot spots and may need stirring.
- Season later, not earlier
- The slow cooking results in the inactivation of spice so try the food at the end to see if you need additional salt or pepper. Even better, wait almost at the end to season the food. Some herbs tend to darken with the slow cooking so it is best to add near the end.
- Caution cooking
- Grease the slow cooker before adding the ingredients and in the middle of cooking stir for even cooking.
