This cake is usually festive, syrupy sweet, traditionally made in Greek kitchens during major holidays but also for family names.
The cake I suggest is slightly syrupy, with less walnut, 2 eggs, with Greek yogurt with olive oil and basic, without mixer. Mix the ingredients with a spoon and ready for the furnace. The flavor and its aroma are intensified by the addition of spices and orange zest.

Ingredients (16 pieces)
|
In the blender crush the finely grated walnuts without them becoming dust. In a large bowl sift the flour with the baking powder, baking soda and salt. Inside the bowl, add sugar, yogurt, walnuts, eggs, spices, lemon zest and juice of half an orange. Mix with a spoon. |
Finally add the oil and mix to make a viscous mix. |
Empty it in an oven pan, well greased, with dimensions 20×20 cm (7.9×7.9 in). Bake in preheated oven at 170°C (338°F, Gas:3.5) for 40′-45′. Test with a toothpick to keep a few crumbs on it. |
Syrup
Boil together all the ingredients of the syrup for 5′ and set aside to cool. |
Remove the cake from the oven, pin it with a stick and sprinkle with syrup. Allow to absorb completely. Sprinkle the surface with crushed walnuts. Served with an ice cream ball. |
